Our Story
The story of God’s work in and through Solus began years ago with a stirring in the heart of our Lead Pastor, Andrew and His wife, Brittany. They would both talk and dream often about the plentiful (and yet underserved) harvest described by Jesus in Matthew 9:35-38. After some key years of ministry training, prayerful planning, and seeking God, this stir to start a church developed into a clear call from Jesus to follow Him by faith into a fresh new work of ministry here in Boca Raton (Andrew’s hometown). In the summer of 2017, the Lord began to surround them with a core group of people who were united by a shared vision for a new church community in our area. The driving passion was to plant and build a church that would seek to be centered around Jesus. On April 1st 2018, after 8 months of prayer meetings, bible studies, and team trainings, Solus officially launched with an Easter Sunday church service at Don Estridge High Tech Middle School. This initial vision to see Jesus at the center continues to be the guiding focus of our church today.
Our Passion
Jesus at the center.
A biblical understanding of “church” serves as the vital foundation for everything that we do as church members and leaders. Our conviction from scripture is that the Church is not merely a place to attend, a pastor to see, a product to consume, or a program to enjoy, but a redeemed community of people who forever belong to Jesus. The Church is God’s purchased possession existing for His glory, kingdom, and purposes on the earth. We see constant imagery of this all throughout the Bible whenever God’s people are gathered before Him. Whether it’s Israel camping out around the tabernacle of God’s presence in the Old Testament, or the redeemed multitude of every tribe, nation, and tongue worshiping before the throne of Jesus in Revelation, God is often depicted as being at the very center of His own beloved people. We desire for the same to be true of our church as a local expression of this eternal reality. Everything we value, do, and pursue as a community must flow from the primary place of having Jesus at the center of His church.
Our Name
SOLUS is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase Solus Christus, meaning Christ Alone. It’s one of the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation, declaring Jesus Christ to be the sole mediator between God and man. Solus Christus proclaims that salvation is obtained through the atoning work of the cross of Christ alone, fully apart from human works and effort. The big idea is that it’s all about Jesus. It’s all because of Jesus, it’s all through Jesus, and ultimately, it’s all for Jesus.
“For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be the glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:36
